Authentic Farm to Table Restaurants

We are all very excited about restaurants finally opening their doors again within the next few weeks! While the pandemic is still around, pursuing a healthy diet has become more important than ever and that is why we have curated a list of some of our favourite Farm to Table restaurants across the United Kingdom. All ingredients are organic and seasonal, sourced from regional suppliers or their own sustainable farms to help reduce the carbon footprint and ensure the ingredients remain fresh and flavoursome when they reach your plate.

Wild Rabbit, Gloucestershire

Carole Bamford, a pioneer in organic farming and holistic living has transformed this charming 18th century Cotswolds inn into one of the most inviting, quintessentially British, farm-to-table restaurants in the UK. With her passion for sustainability, the Wild Rabbit has been lovingly restored with wood beams, exposed Cotswolds stone and cosy open fireplaces using centuries-old techniques. In the kitchen, dishes are meticulously crafted with ingredients from Daylesford Farm’s own sustainable, organic gardens or procured from local suppliers to ensure food served is always fresh and delicious. Diners can expect to feast on delights such as Daylesford cheddar and onion tartlet, autumn truffle risotto, Cornish turbot and caramel parfait.

28 Market Place, Somerset

Tucked away in a Grade II listed building in the pretty town of Somerton, 28 Market Place offers a refined, modern dining experience in the heart of the community. The restaurant’s chef – Great British Menu finalist Dan Fletcher, champions West Country produce, working alongside the best local suppliers located no more than a few miles from the restaurant. Diners can enjoy dishes like Queen scallops with ham hock, white beans, wild leeks and Burrow Hill cider and decadent baked-to-order chocolate fondant tarte with clementine ice cream. There’s also a Market Bakery and Wine Shop attached to the restaurant, with freshly baked bread, pastries and over 100 bio-dynamic and organic wines to browse before you leave.

Rogan & Co, Cumbria

Nestled in the picture-perfect village of Cartmel in Cumbria’s Lake District, is cosy restaurant Rogan & Co, sister of revered eatery L’Enclume. All ingredients for Michelin-star rated Rogan & Co are procured from trusted Lakeland suppliers or from Simon Rogan’s own Cartmel Valley farm. The restaurant ambiance is relaxed, and menus à la carte, with plenty of vegetarian options for non-carnivores. Guests can enjoy innovative dishes such as grilled hen-of-the-woods with potato dumplings and seaweed, aged short rib of beef and for dessert, set white chocolate cream served with meadowsweet, pear and sorrel.

Heckfield Place, Hampshire

Georgian country house, Heckfield Place in Hampshire pairs overnight stays and relaxing spa breaks with outstanding dining experiences. With culinary director Skye Gyngell at the helm, guests can enjoy alfresco dining at Marle in spring and summer months and during cooler months, gather around a roaring open fire at Hearth. The estate runs its own self-sufficient farm which provides fresh herbs, honey, fruit and vegetables for seasonal root-to-table dining in both restaurants, so diners can enjoy grilled meat, vegetable and seafood dishes, seasoned and garnished with the freshest produce from the gardens.

Daylesford Brompton Cross

Daylesford Brompton Cross offers up a plethora of mouth-watering organic dishes, all created from ingredients grown on their Cotswolds farm. Seasonal, ripe produce is gathered and transported to the kitchen for chefs to create delights such as wood-fired sourdough pizza and burgers with lashings of Daylesford cheddar cheese presented in a soft brioche bun. The café operates a zero waste policy utilising recyclable or reusable packaging, and any food remaining following the day’s service is sent to The Felix Project to help fight hunger in London.

The Newt, Somerset

Hidden inside Hadspen House, a Georgian country pile dating to 1687, The Newt is a charming combination of historic and modern. Located between Castle Cary and Bruton in Somerset, it sits on a large estate sprinkled with apple orchards, sustainable gardens and there’s even a History of Gardening Museum. The Newt has two restaurants – Garden Café and the Botanical Rooms, where menus are carefully designed to accommodate seasonal ingredients picked, foraged, baked or distilled on the estate or sourced from local suppliers. With an in-house bakery, dairy, creamery, cider press and gardens teeming with fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables, chefs here have the perfect canvas to create and serve some of the tastiest, most flavoursome food in the country.

Rabbit, London

Rabbit is located on bustling King’s Road in London’s Royal Borough of Chelsea. The restaurant may be unassuming from the exterior, but step inside and you’ll discover a buzzing, eclectic space with more than a hint of rustic flair. Owned by the Gladwin Brothers, Rabbit specialises in dishes curated from locally grown, wild and foraged ingredients. Award-winning English wines are from their vineyard, Nutbourne, and meat comes from sustainable livestock on their family farm in West Sussex. Diners can enjoy tapas style, seasonal sharing plates, making it the perfect spot for an early evening soiree with friends, and if you fancy heading to Rabbit for their legendary Sunday Roast, you can enjoy the best of British produce including wild mushroom wellington, ‘sandy & black’ pork and honeycomb crunchie with vanilla mascarpone and tarragon sugar.

Soho Farmhouse, Cotswolds

Soho Farmhouse is spread across 100 acres of Oxfordshire countryside between the quaint market villages of Chipping Norton and Great Tew. It’s a favourite for A-listers and an Instagram worthy location, courtesy of a tranquil boating lake, spa, cafes, restaurants and a smattering of luxurious waterside timber cabins. The heart of community is the Main Barn, with comfy sofas and a roaring open fireplace, while Fancy Farm offers formal lunch and dinner options. You can enjoy fresh bread and cinnamon buns each morning from Blake’s Kitchen Bakery, a working lunch at Pen Yen or relax after a day of activities in Hay Barn with pizza, meat or pasta dishes, all prepared with locally sourced produce.

Coombeshead Farm, Cornwall

If you want to enjoy exquisite farm-to-table dining at Coombeshead Farm, you can book a room for the night in the quaint Cornish farmhouse. Set amongst 66 acres of scenic meadowland and woodland, this working Cornish farm brings an opportunity to connect with nature whilst enjoying incredible cuisine. The laden breakfast table is arranged with everything from homemade yoghurts and preserves to freshly milled grains and oats and cured meats from the farm’s smokehouse, whilst lunch and dinner are served in a romantic stone-walled cottage complete with wood beams and atmospheric lighting. Menus are specially created to highlight a wealth of local produce with dishes like crown prince squash with smoked cream and oat miso and Beeswax ice cream.

Riverford at The Duke of Cambridge, London

Riverford at The Duke of Cambridge in Islington, London boasts the accolade of the UK’s first certified 100% organic pub. This independent gastro pub operates a strict sustainability criteria, ensuring all dishes are created with ethically grown, seasonal ingredients sourced from local growers and farmers. The owners are big on minimising their carbon footprint too. Food waste is collected and used to generate energy, all their restaurant furniture is recycled or restored, and they don’t support GMO products in any form. Carefully crafted menus are packed with season veggie dishes, grass-reared meat from small farms and sustainable wild sea fish from inshore fishing fleets. Expect to discover menus packed with mouth-watering dishes such as cured salmon with watercress and potato, fish of the day with shellfish cream and decadent Montezuma chocolate brownie. Alongside the food, artisan ales and organic and natural wines can be paired for an authentic gastronomical experience.

River Cottage, Axminster

This farm-to-table stalwart has been serving organic food in Axminster since 2007. Since the restaurant’s inception, little has changed, apart from owner and celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall opening versions of River Cottage all across the country. The restaurants mantra is seasonal food with a focus on fresh vegetable dishes. Diners can enjoy a selection of meat, veggie or vegan curries on Curry Night, sustainable fish on Fridays and their legendary Sunday Brunch.
